Where do you live?

Isaiah 32: 17 The work of righteousness will be peace,
And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.
18 My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation,
In secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places

God Will Take Care of You

God Will Take Care of You

Text: Civilla D. Martin
Music: W. Stillman Martin
Tune: MARTIN, Meter: CM with Refrain

1.    Be not dismayed whate'er betide,
    God will take care of you;
    beneath his wings of love abide,
    God will take care of you.

Refrain:
    God will take care of you,
    through every day, o'er all the way;
    he will take care of you,
    God will take care of you.

2.    Through days of toil when heart doth fail,
    God will take care of you;
    when dangers fierce your path assail,
    God will take care of you.
    (Refrain)

3.    All you may need he will provide,
    God will take care of you;
    nothing you ask will be denied,
    God will take care of you.
    (Refrain)

4.    No matter what may be the test,
    God will take care of you;
    lean, weary one, upon his breast,
    God will take care of you.
    (Refrain)

An infinite love!

Anothe gem from Grace Gems:

(James Smith, "The Love of Christ! The Fullness, Freeness, and Immutability of the Savior's Grace Displayed!")
"And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should--how wide, how long, how high, and how deep His love is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully!" Ephesians 3:18-19
The love of Christ is an infinite love--its heights and depths, its breadths and lengths--surpass our knowledge! The whole of His nature and perfections are thrown into His love, therefore He is said to BE LOVE. He cannot love His people more than He does--nor will He love them less! Until we can comprehend infinity and measure eternity--we cannot know the love of Christ to perfection.

Love in us--rules us; just so, the infinite love of Jesus, rules Him. All that He has ever purposed, promised, or performed for His people--has flowed from this ocean of divine love! He is a globe of love--without beginning or end! He is a sea of love--without fault of defect! Only an infinite intellect can grasp Christ's love--only eternity is sufficient to reveal it to our minds. Christ's love will be always unfolding--but never be fully unfolded. It will be always displaying--but never be fully displayed. We may stand in the center and endeavor to follow its lines--but Christ's love defies our powers, and drowns our thoughts in its immensity!

Christ's love can never be diverted from its objects; it is immutably fixed upon them--and remains fixed forever! Had it been possible to have turned its current, it would have been done long ago; but it is still the river, the streams whereof make glad the city of God.

Having loved His own--He loves them unto the very end. Nothing present or future, above or below--can ever separate believers from the love of Jesus!

On this rock they rest--amidst all the storms of life!
In this fortress they hide--when dangers of every kind surround them!
At this fountain they live--when every creature-stream is dried up!

No love is unchangeable--but the love of Jesus! His love is like the great mountains, and abides forever firm!

O believer, admire and adore! Jesus continues to love you--amidst all your coldness, darkness, and proneness to wander; therefore He restores your soul and causes you to walk in the paths of righteousness. Satan may harass and accuse you, the world may frown upon and persecute you--but Jesus rests in His love, and rejoices over you with singing!

And amidst all the changes which we feel within and without, we ask with holy Paul, "Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?" And with him we reply, "No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow--not even the powers of Hell, can separate us from God's love! No power in the sky above or in the earth below--indeed, nothing in all creation--will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord!"

Worry the Thief of Worship:

I have been thinking much on my favourite Philippians 4 verses today (the best counseling passage in the world and the best method of reproof as a parent - as if we get this right, all else falls into place naturally!) It made me realize that worry is the thief of worship... Here is what we did in our family devotions today:

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. (worship the Lord in the beauty of His holiness...bow down before in Him. We can only rejoice in God properly if we see God for who He is! And then relish and delight in His wondrous character! Know Him that you may worship Him!)

Let your moderation/gentleness be known unto all men. (once we understand God character and show our love for him in rejoicing then we need to get out there and love people. Obey Him! Take action!) The Lord is at hand. ( And when that is hard to do , who helps us? God of course, for He is always with us!)

Be careful/anxious for nothing (there is no room for any worrying whatsoever, chuck it out! BUT God does not expect us to just shove our problems under the carpet; why He himself wept over Jerusalem, and at the grave of Lazarus, so what do we do then?) ; but in every thing by prayer (talk to God each step you take in life, every trouble and care that comes your way)  and supplication (in fact beg God with deep, heartfelt begging for His help with your difficulties and sadnesses! Psalm 50:15) with thanksgiving (with gratitude for His answers which may not be our desires, but thankfulness for who He is! The listening Abba Father!) let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. (even if we do not get answers that we want (God is not a robot or slave from who we demand an answer, no He chose answers we sometimes do not chose), we can always have peace knowing the God in whom we rejoice as the sovereign God, almighty and the one who plans all things, all things for our good if we love Him, no matter how much we may struggle presently it is for our GOOD! (Romans 8:28) and we can know His peace in knowing Him, enjoying Him, obeying Him and talking with Him, begging Him, and trusting and resting in His answers)

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. (Do we have a chance now to revert back to worrying having already done our duty, no ways....think on special things when tempted to worry, gird up the loins of your mind, keep active in your continual worship of God)

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you. (read God's word, look at Paul's life, look at Jesus life and imitate, copy them!)

oh that we may better offer spiritual sacrifices to our Lord, rejoicing in Him again and again.

Again and again I think .....if I 'see God' aright then all else falls into place, even the hardest of hard things. And then I talk to God as Mosses did in Ex 33, for this truly is the only solution: if we see God aright, we see our problems aright and we can cope with anything ( through Christ who strengthens us)!
12 And Moses said unto the Lord, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight.
13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.
14 And he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.
God bless you in your preparation for worship tomorrow, may we see more of our Lord tomorrow, and less of our problems

A Prayer to turn around Worry (the Thief of Worship):

Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight.” Ex 33:13

Dear God of the universe, King of all ages. If we were to be able to go out far enough, out into your immense universe we would not even be able to see the tiny pinprick of our world, never mind a single human being upon our earth. Yet you know how many hairs we have on our heads, you know when one fall.
How puffed up with self-bigness, with arrogant thinking, to think that you would not be able to care for us and cloth us…for you are immense and without boundaries, you are the almighty, all powerful God who owns a thousand hills and all the cattle thereon. You oh God - are you not the one who keeps the mighty roaring oceans in place? Are you not the one who has hewn the highest mountaintops? Why should we be so concerned that you shouldst forget to take care of us when you, oh God, never slumber, nor sleep? Why should we be so concerned that you may chose a hard and treacherous path for us to walk when you are the everlasting one true God with no beginning and no end and you have loved us with an everlasting, covenantal, perfect love. Why should we be so worried about our future possible hardships when you have delivered us from the evil one and his purposes and bought us with your own blood and brought us to a wondrous love relationship, the most beautiful of all? No matter what you may plan to befall us…. nothing, no nothing will separate us from your love. For even in the valley of the shadow of death you are with us, you are our great and tender Good Shepherd.

Oh how ashamed we ought to be for forgetting you as the God of Noah, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph. You are the God of Mosses who parted the Red Sea for His people and sent manna and quails, and carved in your very own hand the commands which reflect to us your character and how we may obey you and learn of true happiness in following your commands to a life in all its fullness. You are the God of Esther, the God who gave Ester’s husband a listening ear and a kindly king’s heart towards her; you are the King of all kings.  You are the God who saved His people from wicked plans of annihilation through Esther and Mordecai’s faithfulness and supplications. You are the God of Ruth and Boaz and of Naomi, the God who cared enough to arrange perfect tender, tiny little details of food and marriage and the blessings of a grandchild for an old bitter woman who had suffered years of hardship and disappointment. You are the God of Samuel, and Daniel, of all your prophets of old who suffered greatly to see your people need your hand of discipline upon them again and again… You are the God of Paul in all his treacherous hardships, the God of Stephen.

And you are our God… oh what love, that you have cared for us and planned, in your divine sovereignty, for our lives since before the beginning of time. Why should we worry when your word so clearly tells us of who you are? Oh Lord, cause us deep misery when we worry instead of worship, for it is sin and does not allow us to honour your most holy name. Yes, cause such deep misery that, in your grace, we may be moved to love you more and serve you better. For you, oh God, are worthy and you in a mysterious way take deep pleasure in our enjoyment of you our God. It is by your grace that you have drawn us, by your grace may we see you more clearly and love you more dearly.

“Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight.” Ex 33:13

Routine:

Do you have troubles organizing your time and priorities? Are you your own boss? As a homeschooling Mum I often find myself having difficulties with my routine and my kids routine is effected by this too. This little devotional is helpful in un-bothering your bothered brain!!

J.R. Miller

A lamp for my feet!

"Your Word is
a lamp for my feet and a light on my path." Psalm 119:105

God's Word is represented as a lamp for the feet.
It is a "lamp" — not a blazing sun, nor even a lighthouse — but a plain, common lamp or lantern which one can carry about in the hand.
It is a lamp "for the feet," not throwing its beams afar, not illumining a hemisphere — but shining only on the one little bit of road on which the pilgrim's feet are walking.

The law of divine guidance is, "Step by step". One who carries a lantern on a country-road at night, sees only one step before him. If he takes that step, he carries his lantern forward, and thus makes another step plain. At length he reaches his destination in safety, without once stepping into darkness. The whole way has been made light for him, though only a single step of it at a time. This illustrates the usual method of God's guidance.

If this is the way God guides, it ought never to be hard for us to find our duty. It never lies far away, inaccessible to us — but is always near. It never lies out of our sight, in the darkness, for God never puts our duty where we cannot see it. The thing that we think may be our duty — but which is still lying in obscurity and uncertainty, is not our duty yet, whatever it may be a little farther on. The duty for the very moment is always clear — and that is as far as we need concern ourselves; for when we do the little that is clear, we will carry the light on, and it will shine on the next moment's step.

Jesus said, "He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness." Prompt, unquestioning, undoubting following of Christ — takes all the perplexity out of Christian life and gives unbroken peace. There never is a moment without its duty; and if we are living near to Christ and following Him closely, we shall never be left in ignorance of what He wants us to do.

Our daily prayer should be, "Direct my footsteps according to Your Word; let no sin rule over me." Psalm 119:133

[7] Deuteronomy 4:15-19. Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner of similitude on the day that the LORD spake unto you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire: Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure, the likeness of male or female, The likeness of any beast that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged fowl that flieth in the air, The likeness of any thing that creepeth on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the waters beneath the earth: And lest thou lift up thine eyes unto heaven, and when thou seest the sun, and the moon, and the stars, even all the host of heaven, shouldest be driven to worship them, and serve them, which the LORD thy God hath divided unto all nations under the whole heaven. "As your days--so shall your strength be!" Deuteronomy 33:25

From Grace Gems:

Little single days

(J.R. Miller, "Daily Bible Readings in the Life of Christ" 1890)

"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own!" Matthew 6:34

One reason which our Lord gives against anxiety for the future, is that we have nothing to do with the future. God gives us life by days--little single days. Each day has . . .
  its own duties,
  its own needs,
  its own trials and temptations,
  its own griefs and sorrows.

God always gives us strength enough for the day. But if we insist on dragging in tomorrow's cares and piling them on top of today's cares--our strength will not be enough for the load. God will not give additional strength--just to humor our whims of worry and distrust.

So the lesson is, that we should keep each day distinct--and attend strictly to what it brings to us. Charles Kingsley says: "Do today's duty, fight today's temptation--and do not weaken and distract yourself by looking ahead to things which you cannot see, and could not understand if you saw them." We really have nothing at all to do with the future--except to prepare for it, by doing the duties of today with fidelity.

No one was ever crushed by the burdens of one day. We can always get along with our heaviest load--until the sun goes down. Well, that is all we ever have to do. Tomorrow? Oh, you may have no tomorrow; you may be in Heaven. If you are here--God will be here too, and you will receive new strength sufficient for the new day.

Can't resist the temptation to show off our littlest darlings...

Well done to my clever little girls who took the photographs for me! A good job especially as they wriggle so much!

One of my favourite passages....

(NKJV)
Philippines 4: 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!
Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

I asked God for strength...

I asked for strength...

I asked for strength and
God gave me difficulties to make me strong.

I asked for wisdom and
God gave me problems to solve.

I asked for prosperity and
God gave me brawn and brains to work.

I asked for courage and
God gave me dangers to overcome.

I asked for patience and
God placed me in situations where I was forced to wait.

I asked for love and
God gave me troubled people to help.

I asked for favors and
God gave me opportunities.

I received nothing I wanted
I received everything I needed.

My prayers have all been answered."

Prayer of an Unknown Confederate Soldier, aka The Creed for the Disabled

I asked God for strength that I might achieve.
I was made weak that I might learn humbly to obey.
I asked for health that I might do greater things.
I was given infirmity that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy.
I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men.
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life.
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I hoped for.
Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered.
I am, among all men, most richly blessed.

Courage in the face of grief and pain

Courage is….

Courage in the face of grief and pain is to grasp hold of ‘life in all its fullness’ when all you want to do is to curl up and cry in bed all day and just wish the world away…

Courage is the will to get out of bed in the mornings, to shower and to wash your hair, to put on makeup and earrings and to dress nicely and walk down stairs and carry on with life for the day. To do what you have to do no matter how you feel. To see whoever the Lord wants you to see no matter how much you want to hide away from the world.

Courage is to wonder as far as your garden or to wander through a park and to sit in the warm sunshine and to enjoy God’s wonderful creation. To notice the flowers and to smell them, pick them and enjoy them. To delight in His tiny creatures.

Courage is to engage with your children…to laugh with them and play with them and help them with their chores, to cry with them and patiently take time to see that they struggle too and to hug them and listen to them and be quiet with them.  To steadfastly pray with them, sing with them and read God’s word to them; to teach them and to give them time to ask questions about God and to gently and tenderly answer them.

To take a walk in a forest with trees so immense that you feel so small and to try to imagine how big our God of the universe must be and how capable God is of looking after your small problems. To think about how He knows when a hair slips from your head -right now, in 17 minutes time, while you slumber tonight – for He never slumbers nor sleeps, He always knows how many hairs we have upon our crowns.

Courage is to wander by the ocean and feel His wind against your sun warmed skin and remember how He stilled the storm, He will still your storms too. Courage is to remember that He is the Light of the world and that in heaven we will need no sun, for we will see Him in all His glory face to face ...courage is to get excited about a wondrous eternity. Courage is to enjoy to feel some of His millions of grains of sand between your toes, and to remember He chose you as a ‘son of Abraham’ since before the beginning of time. To swim in His great waves and remember His power when they knock you flat. And wonder at His mercy in not totally consuming you. And when you leave the ocean to notice how small those powerful waves really are.

Courage is to pant up his great hills and to imagine his greatest mountaintops which you could not even see on the dot of earth if you were to go further out into the universe. And to know He is quite able of carrying you through trouble and to give you rest, because He will.

Courage is to pray until you know that wherever God will take you, whatever more heartaches you still have to face in life - you will always still love Him, trust Him and know that He will carry you ...  for He loves you with an everlasting love, a covenantal love, a perfect love that never ends.  He has no boundaries, He has no beginning and no end, he infinitely wise; He is infinite, eternal and unchangeable in His being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth.

Courage is to see the last hint of the sunset or to get up early enough to see the first hint of the sunrise and to worship the great artistic Lord, who takes time each day to paint beauty into your life.

Courage is to make the choice of living life in all its fullness…to be thankful in the face of adversity, to praise God for who He is, to worship when our face is smudged in the dirt, to have gratitude for mercy, for salvation and for blessings, to rejoice in God’s promises, to tremble at His holiness, to cry out for help, to long for heaven, to hanker to see him face to face, to accept what cannot be changed, to fight for what has to be changed with grace and forgiveness and graciousness and dignity, compassion and kindness and love.

Courage is to try and be more like Him seated at the right hand of Abba Father, and to beg for His help in so trying.

Courage is to step out of bed each morning - in faith when you feel as if you cannot go on. To lift your weeping heart to God, to wipe your weeping night away with worship and with love. Courage is to trust God in His perfect wisdom for He does all things for our good. Courage is to realize that it is pride to think that we should live in a sinful world but to be exempt from the heart ache of evil and its consequences. Courage is not to ask 'why God', but 'why not'? Courage is to ask, ‘what can I learn from this, how can I better love God in this, how can I better serve God, how can I have better compassion?' Courage is to never stop reading God’s word, to always keep praying and, in His grace, to always believe He will give wisdom when we ask in faith despite the impossible difficulty of your situation.

Courage is to remember the Lord's dignified regal silence when falsely accused and to be quiet when quietness better honours our Lord.

Courage is to run the good race remembering that we have not yet agonized to the point of shedding blood, to remember Gethsemane and Calvary; to always be looking to the Author and Finisher of our faith! To enjoy him forever and bring glory to Him when it seems impossible due to circumstances by simply crying out to Him for help, for He will help you and be glorified (Psalm 50:15)

Courage is to ask others for help you when you know you need help, to cry with them and pray with them and to know God's gentle hand upon you when they touch your life.

Courage is to grasp hold of ‘life in all its fullness’ for the giver of eternal life so gives us such a life!
Blessed be the Lord!
May the Lord give us such courage!

Because He lives, just for my precious Jessica

Make me a captive, Lord. By George Matheson, 1842 - 1906

  1. Make me a captive, Lord.
    And then I shall be free;
    Force me to render up my sword,
    And I shall conq'ror be.
    I sink in life's alarms
    When by myself I stand,
    Imprison me within Thine arms,
    And strong shall be my hand.
  2. My heart is weak and poor
    Until it master find:
    It has no spring of action sure,
    It varies with the wind;
    It cannot freely move
    Till Thou hast wrought its chain;
    Enslave it with Thy matchless love,
    And deathless it shall reign.
  3. My power is faint and low
    Till I have learned to serve:
    It wants the needed fire to glow,
    It wants the breeze to nerve;
    It cannot drive the world
    Until itself be driven;
    Its flag can only be unfurled
    When Thou shalt breathe from heaven.
  4. My will is not my own
    Till Thou hast made it Thine;
    If it would reach the monarch's throne
    It must its crown resign;
    It only stands unbent
    Amid the clashing strife,
    When on Thy bosom it has leant,
    And found in Thee its life.

Penitence, a Puritan Prayer from the “Valley Of Vision” , edited by Arthur Bennet, Banner of Truth

Penitence
O Lord Of Grace,
I have been hasty and short in private prayer,

O quicken my conscience to feel this folly,
to bewail this ingratitude;

My first sin of the day leads into others,

and it is just that thou shouldst withdraw
thy presence
from one who waited carelessly on thee.

Keep me at all times from robbing thee,
and from depriving my soul of thy due worship;
Let me never forget
that I have an eternal duty to love, honour
and obey thee,
that thou art infinitely worthy of such;
that if I fail to glorify thee
I am guilty of infinite evil that merits infinite
punishment,
for sin is the violation of an infinite obligation.
O forgive me if I have dishonoured thee,
Melt my heart, heal my backslidings,
and open an intercourse of love.
When the fire of thy compassion warms my
inward man,
And the outpourings of thy Spirit fill my soul,
then I feelingly wonder at my own depravity,
and deeply abhor myself;
then thy grace is a powerful incentive
to repentance,
and an irresistible motive to inward holiness.
May I never forget that thou hast my heart
in thy hands.
Apply to it the merits of Christ’s atoning blood
whenever I sin.
Let thy mercies draw me to thyself.
Wean me from all evil, mortify me to the world,
and make me ready for my departure hence
animated by the humiliations of penitential love.
My soul is often a chariot without wheels,
clogged and hindered in sin’s miry clay;
Mount it on eagle’s wings
and cause it to soar upward to thyself.
