Christ's love, by Smauel Rutherford

Acquaint yourself with Christ's love, and you shall not miss to find new gold mines and treasures in Christ.

I exhort you in the Lord to go on in your journey to heaven by Samuel Rutherford

I exhort you in the Lord to go on in your journey to heaven, and to be content of such fare by the way as Christ and His followers have had before you; for they had always the wind on their faces, and our Lord hath not changed the way to us, for our ease, but will have us following our sweet Guide.

It cost Jesus and His followers sharp showers and hot sweats ere they won to the top of the mountain. But our soft nature would have heaven coming to our bedside when we are sleeping and lying down with us that we might go to heaven in warm clothes; but all that came there found wet feet by the way, and sharp storms that did take the hide off their face, and found to's and fro's, and up's and down's, and many enemies by the way.

Let not the Lord's dealings seem harsh by Samuel Rutherford

Kiss His wise and unerring providence … Learn to believe Christ better than his strokes … Let not the Lord's dealings seem harsh, rough, or unfatherly, because it is unpleasant. When the Lord's blessed will bloweth across your desires, it is best, in humility, to strike sail to Him, and to be willing to be led any way our Lord pleaseth; it a point of denial of yourself, to be as if you had not a will, but had made a free disposition of it to God, and had sold it over to Him; and to make use of His will for yoru own is both to holiness, and your ease in peace. He know not what the Lord is working out of this, but you shall know it hereafter.
