Visiting the Endeavour: On board 1

All these photographs were taken by Jessica Murray: (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission) Commentary by Emma, Tim and Joy.
The toilet...yes for real - out on the front of the ship. Talk about a long drop! And a lack of privacy! Fortunately there were only men on the Endeavor! (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)

The mast, the trampoline was the only non original item and is there for 'health and safety'. (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)

Life boats/rowing boats to get to shore. (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)
Going below deck. It goes straight down and made Timmy feel sea sick and Emma tired. (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)

Meat in brine. (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)

Above: Sauerkraut helps prevent scurvy as cabbage has vit C. If any sailor would not eat his sauerkraut, he would get the 'cat of nine tails'. (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)
Above: Our guide shows us the cat of nine tails. Nine strands of twine with 9 threads in each stand and nine knots for each strand. It is a whip. See the red bag on the right...it was used to keep the whip in so that you could not see the blood of the last person who had been whipped! oooooooh, how horrible! That would be so sore, it makes me so sad. (Emma) (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)
Dining room. They all had ot have their own bowls, mugs etc. (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)

Sailors serviettes: sailors used these ropes, which held their tables up, as serviettes if their hands were messy! Better than using your shirt or your hair! (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)

A hanging table. (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)

General sleeping quarters for the crew, very cramped indeed. Also, most of the areas below deck were low and so I could only remain upright if I was shuffling along on my adult knees - ugggg! Only the little kids could move freely....yes keep tabs on two little boys on my knees was not much fun! The important people all had their own cabins. I remember door handles like this on colonial buildings in South Africa.  Captain Cook, the surgeon, the artist were some of the people in cabins. (All photographs copyrighted and the property of Joy Murray, not to be used without permission)
