The Hobbits of Hobbitton have a footshaving holiday

There was celebration amongst most hobbits today as they had a day free of work while taking time to shave their hairy toes. Some grumbling hobbits point blank refused to shave their toes. When asked why they replied, " Who cares if I have long hair and besides I don't want you to shave my toes." No logical reason can be found for the mysterious refusal to shave, except that it can be guessed that they are perhaps more sensitive to the sensation of shaving, hate a change in routine, and truly don't care about what other people think of them.

Immunity Against Storms;

The rage batters against the door to be let in,

It's slave wind whips and stings at the doormat, trying to make believe the doormat does not exist, or that it is abused; slave wind slices at the mat with it's wicked fingernails, trying to tear it to shreds as it attempt to claw it's way in. 

The raging storm questions at the windows with rattles of doubt and taunting threats of entry and of stealing away of the peace it believes is fake. 

But inside the weary family is warmed, cuddling close together.

Their foundation is strong and secure,

Nothing can take them away from God's love.

And after the storm there is a still deeper tranquility.

 Here is an interesting development in Australian politics. Wendy has worked hard here in Queensland to get bill boards 'G rated' in an attempt to protect children. Yesterday she stuck her neck out even further in presenting her Christian world view, even though her twitter comment seems not to be her own originally, she has stood by it as her view... She is against homosexual couples as surrogate parents, as she thinks it a social experiment in which children are at risk of emotional abuse and likens it to the emotional abuse children suffered in Australia's stolen generation. What do you think?

And then what do you think about her saying, "Strange that I can be called a bigot for standing up for values that many people believe in, yet others can deride my values and that is okay."

I got this email this morning - it provides food for thought. (By the way the word "Kuffar" used at the end of this speech, in the phrase, "Peace, and God bless the Kuffar." .... is apparently a derogatory word used in the Arab world for "non Muslims". )

Mayor Bloomberg is in favor of their right to build this building!!!!!!!!!!!!

In 20 something years Zimbabwe has gone from being the highest importer of maize in the world to being a down trodden people eking out an existence, with the worst of medical services you can imagine, bullied and down trodden. It does not take long for any country to change....don't think we are all right because we are Western! Please pray for these upcoming elections!

Must Look...Good Book

Okay... so I am the daughter of librarians....firstly I love books as my house of hundreds of books bears witness - we eat with books, sleep with books, relax with book, loose books, fight over books, share books together, make memories with books, borrow books, lend book, give books, learn with books, make our own books, make friends with books, shop for books, get books wet in the bathroom, leave books outside, cook with books and travel with books....audio books, text books, classic books, picture books, art books, inspiring books- you name then and most good books, we got em! Or so we think until we keep run out of good books to read again - so let us know if you find some more good books!

The second issue as a librarians' daughter is that I have to TRY to organise everything....look - it may look like a mess to ya all, but I do have 8 kids, so I try me best. For me just slotting books in here and there with whatever chatter is on my mind on this blog is messy.....I have to have some categories and organisation in my life, so I keep starting new blogs, the latest - a book blog! ( See my profile for other blogs!)

The Problem we live with...

"The Problem we live with"  is the title of Norman Rockwell's painting above. When Ruby was the very first Afro American to go to an all white school in the South, she was escorted to school by policeman as an angry crowd mobbed her. Her family lost jobs and had to have people look after their house when they were out - it reflected the society's problem at the time. There was a reaction to the problem, people like brave Ruby actually took a stand and friends stood by them and fought with them for justice. Today our problem is apathy, our comforts are so great we forget there is anything we need to fight against or anyone who needs us to fight for them.

Today in Jessica's Child Care TAFE class they were given a list of about 20 things and had to prioritise what was most important to them... some of the options were spirituality, family, social justice, loving relationships, peace, self esteem, education, sense of community, happiness,etc


Jessica was the only person as far as she could make out who had  "social justice, sense of community and education" in her top 10. It totally blew me away! After all we live in a world of millions of AIDS orphans - such a response from a class of kids preparing to look after children as a full time job, in a country that murders babies through abortion every day.... The most popular was family - phew, albeit by the loose definition of the word family. But why did no one else have social justice, or sense of community?

They also had to write down 5 of their own things they value highly...the biggest was family, only one person said marriage, she was a foreign student, not an Australian. Some people said friendship and nobody said children.... these are the people who will help bring up our future leaders - scary!

In all this nobody said anything that implied an understanding of what a community is, such as getting advise from older people or more knowledgeable people as something to be desired. So if you plan to change this generation before they influence your children or grandchildren - forget it, it's not going to happen!

The only hope is that not everyone shared their thoughts publicly, so maybe there were a few others who were on the same wave length as Jessica. Why did Jessica stand out as differnt, is it because she was homeschooled? Or because her parents have stongly influenced her...they grew up in Africa surrounded by fights for social injustices and a need for working well as a communty? Doesn't everyone have to face these issues though?

The saddest case for me (Jessica thinks it is the funniest) was the guy who sits and passes notes to  his girlfriend through lectures (if they spilt up for tutorials, he is late because he has to kiss his gal goodbye after everyone is inside, long private smoochy stuff) He could not think of anything to say when asked to write 5 things he values most highly . After the lecturer suggested, "your girlfriend" he said, "oh, yes". I am blushing for the poor girl as I write. I am sure it is a reflection of his brain capacity, not her sweetness!

"The problem we live with" today in our society is almost sadder as we don't even know we have a problem! We need to make some bigger noises, don't we?
